Channing Frye’s short jumper provided the go-ahead points as the visiting Phoenix Suns handed the Atlanta Hawks their first loss of the season 118-114 Sunday.
Frye scored with 24.2 seconds left to break a tie and Steve Nash added four free throws in the final 6.7 seconds as the Suns evened their record at 3-3.
Joe Johnson scored a season-high 34 points and had seven rebounds and six assists for Atlanta (6-1). Al Horford scored a season-high 30 and made 13 of 16 shots. Horford had 10 rebounds.
Josh Smith added 19 points and nine rebounds for the Hawks.
Jason Richardson led the Suns with 21 points and Nash had 19 points and 15 assists. Jared Dudley added 15 and Grant Hill scored 14.
Phoenix led by 11 points at halftime but its lead at the end of the third quarter was only two points after Atlanta scored 38 points in the quarter.
