Zaza Pachulia and Jamal Crawford led a bench onslaught as the visiting Atlanta Hawks posted a 119-104 victory over the undermanned Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night in the season opener for both teams.
Pachulia had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Crawford scored 13 points as the Hawks provided Larry Drew with a lopsided win in his NBA coaching debut.
Joe Johnson had 22 points and seven assists and fellow starter Mike Bibby added four 3-pointers and 19 points for Atlanta, which shot 53 percent and outscored Memphis' bench, 50-28.
Memphis struggled without center Marc Gasol, who did not play due to a right ankle sprain. Power forward Zach Randolph did not come out for the second half because of a back injury.
Mike Conley had 23 points and eight assists and Rudy Gay had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who started last season with eight losses in their first nine games and finished losing nine of 11.
The Grizzlies cut a 12-point halftime deficit to four before the Hawks closed the third quarter on a 12-0 run led by Pachulia and Crawford to take a 91-75 lead. Atlanta pushed the lead to 20 points in the fourth period.
The Hawks took a 62-50 halftime lead behind 56 percent shooting and a 39-4 edge in bench scoring. Pachulia had 13 points and nine rebounds, while the Memphis scoring trio of Gay, Randolph and O.J. Mayo combined for 15 on 5-of-21 shooting.
